Helping Solopreneurs Stand Out with Story-Driven Branding and Copy that Converts
Strategic Storytelling means that your stories help you make sales.
Storytelling isn’t about entertaining your clients. It’s a way to meet the content creation challenges of solopreneurs.
Business storytelling is the most important part of copywriting.
It helps you…
- …get clear on your brand, position and message
- build your brand with consistency
- explain what you do…so clearly they can’t mistake you for someone else.
- promote yourself…proudly, without boasting.
- sell when people say, “I want what they’re having.”

When you’re a solopreneur with a service-based business, your brand is YOU.
Your story is different from the big brands that sell colas and beers. For one thing, you don’t have the budget to run your ad on Superbowl Sunday!
More important…you are selling yourself. You’re not selling chemicals in water.
So if you ask me, “What story should I tell?” my answer will be another question: “What do you want to accomplish with that story?”

How I discovered that copywriting begins with stories.
I’m Cathy Goodwin. After spending 20 years as a college professor of marketing.
After I ventured online, I learned copywriting to support a career website. Then I became a copywriter and never looked back.
Soon I realized that what I’d been teaching was more applicable to big companies. Solopreneurs who ran their own companies couldn’t use the same strategies.
I also discovered that almost any marketing activity becomes easier when you start with the story. But a lot of people don’t understand what’s different about a business story — a story that helps you sell.
That became my mission and the driver of my copywriting business. I still consider myself a copywriter and copy coach…but I believe storytelling makes our marketing better.

The Person Behind The Website
I’ve been a proud citizen of Philadelphia since 2011.
I share my space with a rescue tabby cat who absolutely refuses to share her story.
I often work out of a coworking space, IndyHall, in the NoLibs neighborhood in Philly.
I’ve lived all over North America, including Alaska and Canada.
I follow the WNBA (former subscriber to the Seattle Storm) and can’t ignore the Eagles.
I’ve taken classes in ceramic sculpture and am a fanatic about personal fitness. I’ve performed at open mics as a standup comic in Philly and NYC.
Music? Classical country and classical. Period.
Avid reader of murder mysteries and currently reading the Rocco Schiavone series. However, I believe marketing should not be a mystery.
I’ve also published a fun book about the stereotypes associated with getting older. It’s not G-rated and it comes with trigger warnings. Not for the squeamish. Click here.
