You’ve probably heard the statistic that women make over 85% of the buying decisions. And when I talk to my clients – male and female – many begin, “My ideal client is a woman aged 35-60.
Yet the truth is, most copywriters are male. Many copywriting techniques are based on a model male model. As a result, much online language (and copywriting in general) includes aggressive language, such as “crush,” “kill” and “spearhead.” We used to see a lot of reference to a process “on steroids.”
Let’s face it. Used car marketing doesn’t do much for women. And these days, it turns off a lot of men, too.
That doesn’t mean your copy settles for being bland. “Hey girlfriend” is just as edgy as a Tony Soprano sound bite.
And it doesn’t mean women want their copy dripping in hearts and flowers. Many women use some pretty direct language on their websites and sales copy. Many (including me) gravitate to sports metaphors.
And it doesn’t mean you need 2 sets of copy – one for the women and one for the men. In fact, both male and female contemporary entrepreneurs are demanding more “conscious copywriting.”
The truth is, women process information differently. Among other things, women respond to bonding language and they love being sold with stories.
The expert on this topic is my friend, Lorrie Morgan-Ferrero of Red Hot Copy. Lorrie has spent the past 13 years developing copywriting techniques and marketing strategies to appeal to the female market – without alienating men who might want the same service.
In her own words: “I can honestly say that (for most brands) if you aren’t selling to women, you’re leaving a lot of money on the table.”
Lorrie is holding a free training to show you how to get inside the female mind. She’s one of the few copywriters who’s qualified to teach these strategies so it’s one you won’t want to miss.
